Desert Pulse is a vibrant tribute to the rugged, ethereal beauty of the California high desert. Based on a reference photo captured during my travels through Joshua Tree National Park, this piece centers on the iconic silhouettes of the Yucca palms, framed against the distant, snow-capped majesty of Mount San Gorgonio.
In this work, I utilized my signature Meta Fauvism technique to look beyond the literal colors of the Mojave. By fracturing the sky into a mosaic of lavender and cerulean and pushing the earth into searing crimsons and magentas, I’ve translated the physical topography into a rhythmic, sensory experience. The thick, directional brushwork creates a sense of optical vibration, mimicking the shimmering heat haze and the unyielding energy of the desert floor.
